About Us
SW Boatworks was founded by Capt. Stewart Workman in 2000. Stewart grew up in the lobster fishing business . . . his father was a lobster boat owner and also spent time wholesaling lobsters on the shores of Prospect Harbor, Maine. As a young boy, Stewart was fascinated by boats, fishing, and the old time fishermen that took him out on the waters each day. Both in Jr. High and High School, he ran his own boat and pulled lobsters out of the waters by his home.
As Stewart got older, his experiences in boating grew. He spent 4 years in the Coast Guard, station on the Great Lakes, on the West Coast, and patrolling Alaska. After returning to Maine, Stewart focused on schooner and passenger boat restorations, a deep- sea fishing business, and a yacht captain. It was with this knowledge base that Stewart Workman has created our boat finishing business.
Our company is located in Lamoine, nestled between Mount Desert Island, Ellsworth, and Downeast Maine. During the past twelve years, Stewart and his crew have specialized in lobster boats, Coast Guard approved passenger boats, sport fishing boats and yachts. We have finished many different hulls depending on each owners' specifications -- these include Wesmac, Duffy, Calvin Beal, Wayne Beal, Mitchell Cove, and RP to name a few. At SW Boatworks, our experienced crew coordinate all aspects of the finish work from design to fiberglass, from hook ups to electrical -- from start to finish. We place high regard on the wants and needs of each owner and take pride in making each boat unique. Our company is known for our commitment to each boat, the statement it makes on the ocean and the owners it represents.
